Carols at Tathra Beach: Living Out God With Us in Community

From Tracey Austwick and Rev Andrew Smith

At Tathra Uniting Church, under the leadership of our gifted composer and musician Dr Douglas Simper, we participated in a community event: Carols at Tathra Beach. Douglas organised a vast array of local musical talent, with various community groups, to ecumenically celebrate the birth of Jesus. On Tuesday 21 December 2021, in the Hobbs Corner area of the Tathra Beachside Caravan park, Frankie J Holden MC’d this open-to-all, community event. There were bands, individual singers and a choir from the Tathra Public School to carol. The Tathra Rural Fire Brigade, Tathra Surf Club and Pambula Rotary Club supported the event bringing their resources to the celebrations. And, as well as singing the message of Christmas, there were Bible readings and a Christmas message, to help people understand what they were celebrating.
Bega District Brass Band (a community band continued from 1899) and Tathra Singers lead the crowd of around 250 through Christmas carols

Easy, open access and fun atmosphere lead to a wide range of community members celebrating together
